On Sunday alone, we raised 752 €

Sunday, 3. of June, clouds hung over Goriška Brda all day long, but the organisers, led by journalist, initiator and head of the campaign Ervin Čurlič, did not give up. They rushed to prepare and organise the charity event.

The rain stayed in the sky, but on the football field in the village of Vipolže in the middle of Goriška Brda, world-famous sports giants shook hands, gathered to socialise and, above all, to contribute to raising funds for the Vrabček upanja Foundation. All those who want to help and participate in the charity campaign were invited.
Many people responded and the charity donation box was filled to overflowing.

Edy Reja and Slaviša Stojanović
Edy Reja, the renowned and successful (now former) coach of Lazio and Slaviša Stojanović, the current coach of the Slovenian national football team, exchanged some encouraging words under the watchful eye of the journalists present, including Ervin Čurlič and Miha Žibrata.

What was going on?
The gathering took place around a football and started with the opening “scrum” by Edy Reja. The younger selections (U-8, U-10) played a match, followed by a press duel between the Primorska journalists and the Stampa Veneto Insieme team. Italian journalists (Stampa Veneto Insieme) are united with a special mission to play right for the causes of charities in Italy, doing their best to help raise funds for the needy.
The event continued with a women’s and men’s magazine race. The women’s (and later men’s) team was strengthened by the first Slovenian skier, Tina Maze, who scored goals successfully for both the women’s and men’s teams. Those present were almost afraid that she would change sports discipline. The teams consisted of Slovenian journalists with guests.
Slaviša Stojanovič also stood firm for his colours and fought valiantly for the cause of charity. The team also included Adrian Fegic, Lidija Kristančič, Ana Kobal,..
All athletes were also addressed by the Mayor of Brda, Mr. Franc Mužič, ZTKMŠ Brda, provided all the competitors with real Brda cherries.

Contributions from the big ones and charity auction
For the purpose of additional fundraising (all those present, who ran around the playground, also donated money to the Sparrow of Hope Foundation), the Foundation also acquired:

  • A football and an NK BRDA jersey signed by legendary coach Edy Reja
  • The original away jersey of the Slovenian national football team, signed by Samir Handanovic and Slaviša Stojanovic
  • Two original Tina Maze caps (Team to AMaze)

All items will be available for auction!

The event ended at the Dobrovo Castle, where the President of the Board of the Sparrow of Hope Foundation, Mrs. Darja Peršolja, presented all those involved in the project with certificates of recognition and thanks for their participation, and thanked all the actors for their selfless support.

To conclude an enjoyable event, we can say that good will, good hearts and even the rain stayed high in the sky.
The Sparrow of Hope Foundation would like to thank the following for their cooperation in the preparation of the event:

  • Municipality of Brda,
  • ZTKMŠ Brda,
  • NK Brda.

In total we raised 752,00 EUR!
Thank you all!
